
Biographical Info
Cathal is from Galway, Ireland and is a member of Port of Galway Sea Scouts (24) of Galway. He has been active in scouting for 3 years and has earned the rank of Bos’n. He just graduated from St. Enda’s College.
He has many accomplishments to include winning the Irish Sea Scout team racing regatta in 2015, 2016 and 2017, was part of the winning team in the Irish Senior Regional Applied Math quiz 2017, receiving an Academic Achievement award from St Enda’s College in 2017, coming in second in the Cong-Galway (Ireland’s longest inland river race ) in 2015.
He has competed in many Irish National 420 racing events from 2014-2017, competed in school sailing event 2017 and 2018. He was very fortunate to have been invited as part of the crew on the Green Dragon – Volvo Open 70 – in the Giraglia Rolex Cup in June 2017 and then got the opportunity to sail all around the Mediterranean for a further 4 weeks in August 2017.
He also enjoys kitesurfing.
He was disappointed to be narrowly beaten in the 2015 qualifying event but was thrilled to qualify as the team to represent Scouting Ireland this year and look forward to the opportunity to sail in America with teams from many countries worldwide and make many new friends through the Scouting organisation.
He has been sailing for 8 years, and competing in races for 6 years on Optimists, 420’s, Fireflies and Topaz. He has competed in races in various locations throughout Ireland from 2013-2017.
