Biographical Info

Orla is from Gowrie, Australian Capital Territory, Australia and is a member of Lake Tuggeranong Sea Scouts of the Scouts ACT. She has been active in scouting for 10 years and has earned the rank of Rover. She attends Canberra College.

In scouting she has earned the Australian Scout Medallion and is a Queen’s Scout recipient. She is currently studying to earn a Bachelors of Nursing/Bachelors of Para-medicine. She is also a Champion Highland Dancer, National, Junior and Female Champion in two classes of dinghy, ACT Teams Racing Championship Winner and in 2016 Koch Cup placed 6th.

She is passionate about sailing and the Scouting movement. Being part of the Scouting movement has taught her a lot and she believes that it empowers young people and provides them with extremely unique and exciting opportunities. She is competitive and a sportsmanlike sailor and she is always excited to meet new people and face the new challenges that scouting and sailing provide her with.

She has been sailing for 12 years competing twice a week at club racing during the season, regularly in State Titles and National Championships, traveled to California in 2016 and to Dublin in 2017 to compete. She has competed in Lasers, Australian Lightweight Sharpies, Pacers, Mirrors, NS14s, catamarans, B14s, and Waszps.

She has participated in races all over the world to include club racing at the YMCA Sailing Club of Canberra, State Titles and National Championships around Australia, in Long Beach Yacht Club (California, USA), and Sutton Dinghy Club (Dublin, Ireland).
